Ontologizing B2B Message Specifications

چکیده
Data about products and services is of paramount importance in most inter-organizational business processes. For business-to-business (B2B) scenarios, a great number of XML-based message specifications are available, which cover various processes and types of transactions. These specifications support the respective data exchange tasks by providing a common representation for products and services in the form of syntactical conventions with some light-weight formal semantics. However, an analysis of the underlying models shows that technical product data and commercial product data are being represented in a fundamentally different manner. In particular show the commercial models both a higher syntactical complexity and more semantic heterogeneity. In this paper, we propose to align the representation of technical and commercial views on product data in message specifications. Our approach is based on the PLIB ontology, which was originally described in ISO 13584. We have evaluated our proposal by applying it to an industrial message specification for electronic catalogs, and can show that the novel approach reduces representational mismatches in B2B processes and simplifies systems integration in such scenarios.

RosettaNet and Semantic Web Services
In this paper we present a semantic B2B gateway based on the WSMX semantic Service Oriented Architecture to tackle heterogeneities in RosettaNet messages. We develop a rich RosettaNet ontology and use the axiomatised knowledge and rules to resolve data heterogeneities and to unify unit conversions. We define adaptive executable choreographies, which allow a more flexible integration of supplier...
متن کاملAn Industrial Validation of a Semantic-Mediation Architecture
This paper presents an industrial validation of a semantic-mediation architecture that enables business-to-business (B2B), standards-based interoperability between heterogeneous legacy applications. The architecture was implemented using a state-of-the-art semantic-mediation toolset for design-time and run-time integration tasks. The design-time tools supported a domain ontology definition, mes...
متن کاملUsing business process specifications and agents to integrate a scenario-driven supply chain
In today’s increasingly competitive global market, most enterprises place great stress on reducing order fulfillment costs, minimizing time-to-market and maximizing product quality. The desire of businesses to achieve these goals has seen a shift from a make-to-stock paradigm to a make-to-order paradigm. The success of the make-to-order paradigm requires robust and efficient supply chain integr...
متن کاملDynamically Generating Conformance Tests for Messaging Systems
The advent of XML technologies for data exchange negotiations in B2B applications is proliferating a new class of messaging standards that are only fully designed at the implementation level. These specifications offer unmatched flexibility. However, this presents a challenge for ensuring correctness, as each implementation is potentially unique--conformance tests are needed. We propose a gener...
متن کاملB2B Interoperability using Business-Driven Integration: Conceptual Framework and Case Study
The interoperability among companies and the business-to-business (B2B) message exchange are key aspects of the growth of businesses: in the next years the companies that are able to cooperate with each other will be winners. The use of B2B messages modifies a company’s method of operation and, of course, its internal business process. In this paper, we propose a conceptual framework to solve t...
